IRC & ARMA
ARMA International is a not-for-profit professional association and the authority on managing records and information – paper and
electronic. The association was established in 1955. Its approximately 11,000 members include records managers, archivists, corporate
librarians, imaging specialists, legal professionals, IT managers, consultants, and educators, all of whom work in a wide variety
of industries.in The association also develops and publishes standards and guidelines related to records management. It
was a key contributor to the international records management standard, ISO-15489.
The Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) is an international certifying organization of and for professional records and
information managers. The ICRM was incorporated in 1975 to meet the requirement to have a standard by which persons involved in records
and information management could be measured, accredited and recognized according to criteria of experience and capability established
by their peers.
IRC was founded in 1983. At the time, ARMA was the only records management professional association and they had a very
active Wyoming Chapter. As Janie became interested in becoming a Certified Records Manager, her membership in ARMA became even
more valuable through their educational programs. Once Janie earned her CRM she was dedicated to paying back ARMA for their
support and has been a presenter at their annual conferences since 2006 developing educational content for her industry. ARMA
has been integeral to IRC's success in keeping their clients current with technology and industry trends while assuring that
the best practices of the industry are adhered to for all services!
